A good fit if…
You have records to organise and want to compare storage, imports and outputs before committing to an application or plan.
Look elsewhere if…
You need a personal tax conclusion. Software selection and transaction organisation do not replace advice on your individual obligations.
Compare rotki, Koinly, CoinTracker and Crypto Pro by the record you need to produce. A portfolio display, a reconciled history and a tax report are different outputs.
Name the output before choosing the software
A weekly portfolio view may be enough for one person, while another needs years of transaction history and a specific report. Describe the output in ordinary terms and include the date range. Do not choose a product simply because its dashboard contains more charts. The question is whether you can retain, inspect and use the records that matter to your task.
Run the same small history through your shortlist
Choose a representative period containing a purchase, a transfer and a separately recorded fee. Preserve the original exports and compare imported timestamps, quantities and currencies. Check whether both transfer legs appear and whether repeated imports create duplicates. Record any difference rather than editing away an inconvenient row without explanation. A successful sample does not prove every later import is correct, but it gives you a useful acceptance procedure.
Decide where the main record should live
rotki centres the main encrypted database on your own device, with optional connected features to review. Koinly and CoinTracker are hosted services. Crypto Pro describes device-held portfolio information and optional synchronisation, while alerts use external delivery infrastructure. These differences affect backup responsibility and data exposure. Read current privacy, retention and export terms before supplying a complete financial history.
Compare the plan against your actual history
Transaction limits, supported integrations, reporting years and downloadable outputs can determine the required tier. A free dashboard may not include the report you need. Ask how an export remains accessible if a subscription ends and whether the intended adviser can use it. For Crypto Pro, check the Apple devices and current CSV schema. For tax-oriented services, check country support without assuming that a generated form resolves every classification question.
Keep uncertainty visible in the finished record
A missing acquisition, ambiguous transfer or unknown fee currency should remain an unresolved item until supported by evidence. Software cannot reconstruct a fact simply because a report needs a value. Our own Transaction Ledger Organizer can help structure a local file and exception list, but it does not calculate tax. Whatever tool you choose, keep source files and review notes alongside the derived output so another person can follow the reasoning.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| A good fit for | A fit for people willing to maintain a desktop application, backups and a reconciliation routine. | A fit when your exchanges, networks and required reporting jurisdiction are supported by the selected plan. | A fit for readers whose required accounts and reporting needs match the service’s current integrations and plans. | A fit when you use supported Apple devices and want tracking rather than a tax-filing workflow. |
| Main record job | A local-first record and portfolio application for readers who want to organise history while retaining control of the main database. | A hosted transaction-import and reporting service to compare when reconciling records across multiple sources. | A hosted portfolio and tax-reporting service to examine through a small reconciliation trial before a full-history import. | An Apple-focused portfolio tracker for readers who want personal records and price alerts across their usual devices. |
| Acceptance check | Check the current import coverage, export formats, premium limits, backup instructions and optional data-sharing settings. | Check country coverage, the exact integration, historical date range, transaction limit and report access before paying. | Verify supported sources, reporting country and year, plan limits, export access and the privacy terms that apply to your history. | Check the Apple OS requirements, current feature tier, CSV schema and optional sync and notification settings. |
| The trade-off | Missing history can distort reports. Local storage still requires secure backups and device maintenance. | A generated report is only as dependable as its imported history and reviewed settings. This article does not verify a personal tax result. | Imports and automated classifications require review. Availability of a report does not establish its suitability for every jurisdiction. | Alerts rely on external delivery and are not trade instructions. A portfolio view is not a tax report. |
