The short version
Where this tool fits
A local-first record and portfolio application for readers who want to organise history while retaining control of the main database. Missing history can distort reports. Local storage still requires secure backups and device maintenance.

What the documentation establishes
rotki is open-source and keeps its encrypted database locally. Its documentation includes transaction history, portfolio analysis and exports; optional premium features can include encrypted synchronisation. Anonymous analytics can be disabled. It is not accurate to imply that every possible connection or feature is entirely offline.
Where it fits into your routine
Imagine combining several historical exports and finding a transfer shown only on one side. A useful record tool lets you trace the source and investigate the missing leg rather than simply admiring a portfolio total. Before relying on a full import, use a small historical period and check dates, quantities and fees against the original files. Preserve those originals independently of the application database.
The decision before you commit
Local storage is a meaningful choice only when you can maintain it. Plan how the database will be backed up, how you will restore a copy and which optional connections you want enabled. Compare the current free and premium limits against your actual history. Profit-and-loss output depends on the records and settings supplied; it is not a substitute for jurisdiction-specific filing advice.
Before choosing
Check the current import coverage, export formats, premium limits, backup instructions and optional data-sharing settings.
