The short version
Where this tool fits
A wallet interface for people who need to interact with supported networks and applications, with permissions to review carefully. A connection or signature request can have consequences beyond signing in. This review does not assess individual third-party applications.
A good fit if…
A fit when your intended application supports MetaMask and you are prepared to separate connection, approval and transaction requests.
Look elsewhere if…
Permission requests need interpretation
A wallet interface for people who need to interact with supported networks and applications, with permissions to review carefully.
A fit when your intended application supports MetaMask and you are prepared to separate connection, approval and transaction requests.
What the documentation establishes
MetaMask provides browser and mobile wallet interfaces. The current product site includes Ethereum-compatible networks as well as Bitcoin and Solana features. Supported networks and operations vary, so an older description of MetaMask as exclusively an Ethereum wallet is incomplete.
Where it fits into your routine
A useful first exercise does not require moving funds. Read the help pages for the particular network and identify the account selector, network selector and connected-sites settings. Write down what each request is asking you to do. Being able to distinguish showing an address from granting token spending permission is more valuable than memorising where a colourful button sits in one release.
The decision before you commit
Judge the tool against a named activity. If your task is only to read public transaction history, an explorer may be sufficient and no wallet connection may be necessary. If you need an application interaction, review the application independently as well as the wallet. Keep optional trading and purchase services separate from your decision about the basic interface. A familiar wallet brand does not endorse every site that offers its connection button.
Before choosing
Use download links from the official site, check the network-specific help and inspect the requested permissions before using an application.

Transaction Preparation Sheet helps you organise your own notes in this browser. Keep credentials and recovery material out of your project.
